Two Dallas-area swimmers brought home gold medals from the UIL 4A swimming and diving championships held at Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio.
Celina’s Reagan Hix claimed the top spot in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:55.40, marking her second consecutive state title after winning the 500 freestyle gold last year. Her teammate Grace Waldschmidt dominated the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 404.40 points.
The pair represented the only two individual gold medalists from the Dallas area at this year’s meet.
Frisco Panther Creek led Dallas-area girls teams with a fourth-place finish, accumulating 174 points. Camille Thelen powered the team’s performance with a silver medal in the 200 freestyle, clocking 1:59.21.
On the boys side, Prosper Richland topped local teams with a fifth-place finish and 126 points. Sunnyvale rounded out the top Dallas-area performers, placing 10th with 65 points behind Felipe Castellon’s bronze medal performance in the 100 butterfly at 53.66 seconds.
Midland YWLA captured the girls team championship with 281 points, while Monahans and San Antonio Great Hearts Monte Vista tied for the boys title with 279 points each.
Sunnyvale also competed strongly in the girls division, finishing seventh with 124 points. Harper Bryant contributed a silver medal in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.23 seconds.
Hix nearly added a second individual medal, placing second in the 500 freestyle at 5:03.88, just behind winner Emily Phillips of Midland YWLA.
The championships showcased the depth of swimming talent across Texas high schools, with competitors from as far as Corpus Christi and El Paso making their mark in San Antonio.
